SPLIT, CROATIA

SPLIT, CROATIA

A lot of port towns in the Mediterranean start off as a fishing village and grow to become something much more. Tale as old as time… but that’s not the backstory of Split, Croatia — Split has its roots in being the retirement home of a Roman emperor! Pretty lofty, and ages later you can still see why Diocletian himself settled here way back in the 4th century. The “old town” neighborhood is packed with history and charm, shopping and local flavor, cathedrals and the Temple of Jupiter… and museums help put it all in context. Some of nature’s best makes all the history seem surprisingly young, and it comes in the form of Krka National Park, home to natural limestone landscaping and some incredible waterfalls.
