Bear Expedition: Join a bear-viewing experience accessible by road, featuring an eight-mile coastal drive to Herring Cove in the Alaska Rain Forest Sanctuary. A professional guide helps you spot black bears. An elevated boardwalk leads to private viewing platforms overlooking Eagle Creek, where bears fish for salmon. Eagles and other wildlife are often seen.
What’s Included:
Accessibility: Tour is ambulatory accessible; you must be able to take a few steps (up/down) and walk short distances. Collapsible wheelchair can be stored.
Requirements & Restrictions: Minimum age – 12 years old. Guests are not allowed to bring along any food or drinks due to bear excellent sense of smell. Guests must be able to stand for long periods of time and be comfortable being on elevated boardwalk up to 15 feet off ground.
What to Bring: Camera and credit/debit card or cash for additional purchases at the gift store.
Good to Know: Trail is compact gravel and boardwalk. Tour operates rain or shine. Tour is only available between late-July and late-September to maximize the chance of seeing bears during the peak salmon-spawning season. Guests are encouraged to wear warm clothing, layers, comfortable walking shoes, and rain jackets. Wildlife sightings are common, but not guaranteed.
