Begin the day at the pier in Mykonos and board a local ferry to sail across to the Island of Delos, one of antiquity’s most historic sites in all of Greece. Located in the heart of the Cyclades Island group, Delos was once a hub of trade activity and an important site of religious significance. According to Greek Mythology, Delos is the birthplace of Apollo, the god of music, beauty and light and his twin sister Artemis, goddess of the hunt, wilderness and the moon. Early in the 19th C AD, a dramatic excavation uncovered beautiful artefacts, mosaics, statues and buildings, in what is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Disembark and walk by the Terrace of the Lions, the theater, temples and other public buildings, that reveal traces of their former splendor. Return to Mykonos town and walk to one of the island’s typical tavernas, to savor some of the flavors of this unique island during a lunch prepared with delicious, local specialties. Another highlight of the day is the folkloric show presented by local performers. Then follow your guide on a walking tour of picturesque Mykonos town through its labyrinth-like maze of tiny streets. See the most important landmarks including the windmills, Little Venice and the spectacular Paraportiani Church. At the end of the guided tour, feel free to stay in town and return to Tourlos Port with the shuttle at own expense. Order of the visits may change for operational reasons.
