Screech Ceremony: Locals refer to visitors to Newfoundland as “Come from Away,” but today, just steps from the cruise pier, you can become an honorary Newfoundlander through your very own Screeching In Ceremony. This time-honored tradition, led by a native Newfoundlander, embodies the welcoming spirit of the island. You’ll be asked, “Is ye a Screecher?” and with a resounding “deed I is,” your initiation begins. Recite your declaration, kiss the cod, and take a shot of Screech rum.
Newfoundland Tradition: Enjoy traditional Newfoundland music from resident musicians playing the accordion, guitar, and ugly stick. Sing along, dance a jig, and sample local foods such as molasses bread, roasted caplin, and bologna. Return to your ship as an honorary Newfoundlander, filled with special memories of your once-in-a-lifetime experience in northern Newfoundland.
Requirements & Restrictions: Guests must be able to walk over gravel, rough terrain, and inclined surfaces.
